The Social Impact Organization

PSIKKA

Pertubuhan Sokongan Ibubapa Kanak-Kanak Autisme (PSIKKA) or also known as Autistic Parents Support Society (APSS) is a self-funded organization founded by parents with autistic children based in Sungai Petani, Kedah. They took initiative to pool their resources together to establish a centre that focuses on early intervention, learning and pre-vocational programs which include hydrotherapy, horse-riding and archery.

The Design Challenge

In line with the Chief Minister’s call, design a solution to enable PSIKKA to run its center in a sustainable fashion.
Pertubuhan Sokongan Ibubapa Kanak-Kanak Autisme (PSIKKA) is a self-funded organisation founded by parents with autistic children based Sungai Petani, Kedah. These parents pool their resources together to establish a center that focuses on early intervention, learning and pre-vocational programs which include hydrotherapy, horse-riding and archery.
The center currently has a teacher and an assistant with 16 autistic children age between 4 – 16 years old. Space at this center is inadequate with no functioning toilets. This group also faces resource and facility constraints. Although they have various funding options, these involve a tedious documentation process with no guarantee of financial aid.
On 24 January 2019, at an autism seminar, the Kedah Chief Minister called for increased assistance and support from the Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat, the private sector and the community to lift the plight of the autistic children.

The 'A' Team: FABULOUS 5

The Proposed Solution

The solution to help Fabulous 5’s impact organisation, PSIKKA is through the creation of a website. The website will be used as a platform to raise money for PSIKKA. We will provide the necessary information for people to donate directly to PSIKKA. Apart from that, it will also be used to sell merchandises made by the children. Plus, there will be other sections included in the website to increase awareness as well as inform the public on the past and future events organised by PSIKKA.

Progress Summary

We have discussed on the development of the website, products and also merchandises which will be featured. We have started to write a draft for our sponsorship letter which will be distributed to individuals and companies. As for our website, we have finalized our sitemaps. We have decided that it is suitable for us to start a crowdfunding campaign for our NGO. Target: RM20,000.

We have met the NGO and identified their needs and expectations. We have recruited a new team member, Asad to handle the website. We have finished all the wireframes for content pages besides adding information and setting payment gateway for our website. Apart from the website, we also prepare content for the website accordingly to suit the website such as articles related to autism and many more. We have started to plan the content calendar, Leena and Kharisma will work on that. As for the products, all are well on their way. As for the totebags, it will be sent for printing as soon as we have received the final quotation from the shop. It takes around 8 days for it to be ready with a cost of RM8 per piece. We have conducted a workshop with the kids at PSIKKA. We brought along 3 volunteers with us to help in the paperbag making process. We are quite late in terms of the website development. We‟ll need to set it up as quick as possible. Since now most of the contents are ready, we hope by early of August, it will be up and running. We have also decided on the gifts our donors will get in exchange for their kind donation. It will be a simple but cute thank you card. Meanwhile, donors for Sponsor A Child will get a different gift depending on the package that they choose. Among the gifts are totebags, postcards and paperbags.
We had a lot of discussion and meetings within our group members that built our teamwork in problem solving. There are several amendments made to the wireframes based on the feedback from our NGO. The contents are mostly done and ready to be transferred to the website. We have started an overview of our content calendar but it has not been finalised. We will work on it as soon as possible. The workshop with the kids has opened our eyes in terms what what it takes to take care of these kids and help them produce a product. It might not be easy but it sure is rewarding when we see how their faces light up once the product is ready
