Sustainability & The SDGs
Me.reka is dedicated to creating a more equitable society and a healthier planet. What’s more, Me.reka was born from the conviction that business can be done differently, better. The global sustainability agenda and mission of Me.reka are intertwined and inseparable.
When the SDGs were announced, our sustainability team conducted an in-depth deconstruction of each relevant SDG, and then rebuilt it again to measure Me.reka’s impact to the deepest level. Each year, we publish an extensive sustainability report based on this framework.
You can find our reports here.
This is an overview of how the SDGs translate to Me.reka’s work in practice.
We try to eliminate hazardous waste in our production processes. When it cannot be avoided, proper handling, use and waste management of hazardous chemicals is observed.
We aim to make education accessible to everyone nationwide, using fun and easy-to understand pedagogical approaches, combining arts with sciences and ensuring life long learning.
We aim to uphold gender equality commitments for both sexes at all times.
We aim to ensure that Me.reka’s direct and indirect supply chain is ethical.
We aim to support and integrate SMEs and SEs into Me.reka’s value chain and markets.
We aim to eliminate discrimination in its all forms.
We reduce, reuse and recycle materials used and waste generated in the design, prototyping, manufacturing, packaging, delivery and return of products developed.
We adhere to Open Book Finance principles.
We implement and stay on track towards achieving sustainable development.
Me.reka Textiles Lab encourages you to look beyond the labels and enquire about the wages and working conditions of those workers who made your clothes. Me.reka Textiles Lab takes a sustainable approach to the design, sourcing and manufacturing of textiles-based products and offers you a chance to work with waste materials and to design circular economy solutions.
Me.reka Virtual Reality Lab showcases an element of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR). Although 4th IR is making swiping changes in all industries, millions are affected by the digital divide by virtue of geography, economy, gender or disability. However, VR’s ability to place us in different scenarios and landscapes connects human beings around the world. Me.reka VR Lab makes technology-based education, and the future of design, accessible to all.
Me.reka Electronics Lab encourages you to explore clean energy research and technologies to fulfil day-to-day needs, including alternative energy mechanisms such as solar and human-powered generators. Me.reka Electronics Lab works with Open Source Hardware such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi, encouraging you to join the Open Source global movement.
Me.reka Design Lab makes prototyping tools and personal-scale fabrication affordable and of equitable access to all. Me.reka Design Lab encourages local makers to research, develop, design, test and prototype their ideas, creating an inclusive environment to foster innovation and sustainable solutions.
Me.reka Fabrication Lab encourages you to use natural resources efficiently by reducing use of natural resources through design and by re-purposing waste into materials. Me.reka Fabrication Lab also manages waste generated from here, efficiently and find ways to channel it away from landfill.
