ME.REKA supports the open-source concept. We believe in collaborating and sharing our designs with other makers, and we encourage you to do the same. We believe the best ideas are made together; together we expand the possibilities/limits of making. Collaboration on projects of intense personal interest drive the need to share ideas and lessons learned more than external incentives like grades.
-Makers share designs, code, and ideas globally but making occurs locally. Makers share their expertise with a worldwide audience. “We” are smarter than “me” is the lesson for educators.
“All children are born artists, the problem is to remain an artist as we grow up.” – Pablo Picasso
Science and art are rarely valued equally (with science normally given higher credit).
At ME.REKA, we believe that the process of having original ideas that have value comes from mixing different disciplines together. We believe that combining multiple industries and fields of knowledge creates an innovative, collaborative and inclusive space where anything is possible.Open-source Collaboration
Me.reka is open to people from all walks of life, regardless of age, background or ability. By teaching vocational and hands-on, practical skills to the youth of today, we aim to develop developing talent and entrepreneurs for the industries and businesses that will shape the leaders of Malaysia.
At ME.REKA, we believe that everyone is a maker. By providing you with the right tools, space and guidance, making is made easy for you. We believe that everyone has an innate capacity to make and learn. ME.REKA is not built around academic capacity: we believe it is never too late to learn something new; age, background or education do not limit you.
At ME.REKA, we believe there is no single right way to learn; learning is personal and everyone learns differently. Our alternative educational model supports this by incorporating different learning styles into everything we do. We think about the world in all the ways we experience it; we believe that creative and innovative ideas and designs are best developed through an experiential learning experience which combines kinesthetic, visual, abstract, auditory and verbal learning styles. Making is more fun this way!
Me.reka is grounded on the principles of sustainability; we believe how we make things is as important as what we make. We source from sustainable suppliers and encourage people to create products that are made-to-last. All our projects are developed in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals as we are looking to not only improve the environment, but also every individual we are able to reach out to.
In today’s consumer society, the value of making is often forgotten. It is often simpler to buy a new product, than to make or repair it. We aim to promote a sustainable mindset as, through learning how to fix things, people are less likely to throw things away.
We source from sustainable suppliers and encourage makers to consider repurposing old products and/or using upcycled materials in their designs. We believe that making gives us control over the world we live in; how we make has impact and can make a difference.
At ME.REKA, we cherish the traditional artisan value of creating products that are made-to-last and created locally. We aim to bridge the inequality gap by supporting decentralised production; we connect our makers to local industries, enabling them to sell their products on the local market.
We support the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Check out our organizational pledge towards achieving the global goals for humanity.
At Me.reka, we believe the question of how we teach is just as important as what we teach. Our pedagogical method, designed specifically to cater to the needs of the 21st Century, promotes learning through hands-on application and immersive experiences, giving leverage to our youth in this fast-changing world.
What sets ME.REKA apart from other education centres or makerspaces, is its relavance to current industries and unique commercial link. ME.REKA provides a platform for creative entrepreneurs to find the talent they need, and gives students the opportunity to work on real-world, industry-centric projects with a client, deadline, budget and team.
Me.reka is where we mix the sciences, arts and people together. Me.reka exists for the benefit of inventors, innovators, entrepreneurs, students or simply anyone with the intention to create a prototype of their idea. As well as nurturing the skills of expert makers, we offer public-friendly events, experiences and talks for anybody curious about making and creating.
