Mechanical Engineering

January 13 @ 12:00 pm - 5:30 pm

RM70 – RM440
Mech-Eng-EFK

Explore the field of mechanical engineering and discover how engineers invent, design, and build all kinds of machines – from simple bike locks to complex jumbo jet engines!
Design and produce your own projects too – guaranteed to produce many giggles and grins! Opt for one session (RM70), 4 sessions (RM250), or 8 sessions (RM440).

JUNIOR PROGRAMMES (4-6 YEARS OLD)

Catapulting marshmallow
  • Students will recognize and construct a basic catapult.
  • Understand a basic definition of torque and how it relates to the motion of catapult.
Coaster 101
  • Students will understand basic properties of physics such as gravity, potential energy and kinetic energy and how they relate to roller coasters.
  • Explore the relationship between the height of the beginning of the track and the speed and distance the marble is able to travel.
Marble maze
  • Students will learn about friction, acceleration and kinetic energy.
  • They are going to design their own maze.
Rolling rambler
  • Students will understand the basic design of a toy car, including wheels and axles
  • Understand basic properties of physic such as speed and acceleration and how they relate to the movement of cars.
  • Investigate variables that affect the speed of a toy car, such as wheel size, weight of materials and incline of road.
Popper
  • Discuss the role mechanical engineers play in toy design and creation.
  • Identify familiar toys that examples of mechanical engineers’ work.
  • Understand that the greater the force upon an object, the greater the change in motion.
Spinner
  • Understand that a spinning object uses momentum, which keeps it moving.
  • Students will investigate properties of spinning toys and construct their own shimmering toy spinner.
Boomerang can
  • Students will learn basic concepts of kinetic energy and potential.
  • energy as they create and investigate their own unique, magical toy.
Tilted tally
  • Students will learn characteristic of inclined planes and differing degrees of angles.
  • Predict and test the efficiency of travel of a round bead propelled on varying inclines.

APPRENTICE PROGRAMMES (7-14 YEARS OLD)

Candy catapult
  • Demonstrate the difference between an accurate launch and a precise launch.
  • Compare the weight of a projectile and its trajectory.
Coaster 101
  • Students will understand basic properties of physics such as gravity, potential energy and kinetic energy and how they relate to roller coasters.
  • Explore the relationship between the height of the beginning of the track and the speed and distance the marble is able to travel.
Marble run
  • Analyze ideal angles to achieve the ideal rate of travel.
  • Utilize friction to control rate of travel.
Eggstreme defense
  • Understand how potential and kinetic energy relate to the motion of objects.
  • Explore effective packaging and recognize the difference between minimal and excessive packaging.
Custom dragster
  • Design and build a car without a conventional motor.
  • Understand the difficulties of building an aerodynamic dragster.
Rubber band racer
  • Students build a racer, learning about potential and kinetic energy.
  • They will also find ways to improve the efficiency of the racer.
